This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, store, and share your personal information, and your rights under the Protection of Personal Information Act, 2013 (POPIA).

2. Information We Collect

From homeowners requesting quotes:

• Full name, email address, phone number
• Service type, location (province, city, suburb)
• Project description
• IP address and referrer URL (logged automatically)
• Consent to data sharing with third parties (optional, explicitly chosen)

From contractors registering a business account:

• Business name, contact name, email address, phone number
• Service category, city, province
• Website URL (optional)
• Trade licence and insurance documents (optional)
• Password (stored as a one-way hash — never readable)
• Payment information (processed by PayFast — we do not store card details)

3. How We Use Your Information

We use personal information to:

• Match homeowner service requests with relevant local contractors
• Send lead notifications to contractors via email and WhatsApp
• Process subscription payments and send billing communications
• Verify contractor identities and credentials
• Send transactional emails (account verification, receipts, lead alerts)
• Improve platform performance and detect fraud
• Share homeowner data with verified data partners only where the homeowner has given explicit consent

4. Data Sharing

We share personal information only in the following circumstances:

• With contractors: Homeowner contact details are shared with matched service contractors so they can respond to your request.
• With payment processors: PayFast processes subscription payments. We share only what is necessary for billing.
• With data partners: We may share homeowner contact details with selected third-party partners for marketing purposes only where you have expressly consented via the data sharing checkbox on our quote form.
• With service providers: We use third-party services (email delivery, WhatsApp notifications) that process data on our behalf under confidentiality obligations.
• With authorities: Where required by law or court order.

We do not sell personal information to third parties without explicit consent.

5. Your Rights Under POPIA

You have the right to:

• Access the personal information we hold about you
• Correct inaccurate or outdated information
• Delete your personal information (subject to legal retention requirements)

6. Data Retention

We retain homeowner lead data for up to 3 years for business records and dispute resolution. Contractor account data is retained for the duration of the account and up to 5 years after closure. You may request early deletion by contacting us.

We use industry-standard security measures including encrypted connections (HTTPS), hashed passwords, and access controls. No method of transmission over the internet is 100% secure. If you believe your account has been compromised, contact us immediately.

8. Cookies

Our website uses minimal cookies necessary for authentication and security. We do not use tracking or advertising cookies. Analytics data is collected in aggregate and is not linked to individual users.

9. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. The “Last updated” date at the top reflects the most recent revision. Continued use of the Platform after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
